BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Throughout Christian Service Brigade’s long-standing history, a diversity of men and women have stepped into leadership roles by becoming member’s of our Board of Directors. These men and women have brought to bear their unique skills, talents, and experiences and have provided the guidance and wisdom to help to ensure our men’s ministry fulfills its primary mission to help with “Building Godly Men of Today and Tomorrow.”

The men and women listed below represent our current Board of Directors. We are blessed to have their guidance and stewardship of Christian Service Brigade.

Together, in partnership with our National Office Staff and Field Team, fueled by our shared faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we continue to strive for a vibrant vision and future for this ministry that was started many years ago by Brigade’s founder, Joe Coughlin.

Mark Shoger
Chairman of the Board

Mark grew up in Christian Service Brigade, participating in Stockade and Battalion at the former Ward Presbyterian Church (#1482, unit retired). He was excited to get his sons involved in CSB as soon as they were eligible for Tree Climbers. Mark has been involved in CSB for over 20 years and has served as a leader at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church (#6468), Annapolis EP Church (#4743), Forcey Bible Church (#555) and is currently the CSB Chairman and Battalion co-Captain at Columbia Presbyterian Church (#6831). He attended Camp Kaskitowa as a youth and has served at and been a member of the board for Camp Hemlock. Mark completed the Herald of Christ for Men (#11) in 2013.

Mark has served on multiple boards including Camp Hemlock and Elev8 Sports, a 600 participant basketball league at Columbia Pres. He has coordinated multiple Camp-O-Rama events in the National Capital CSB Region, attended by Battalion units from all over the Maryland, Virginia, and DC area. Mark’s vision for CSB is to ensure that it stays culturally relevant while not compromising on its values and strong Gospel and discipleship message.

Mark is the manager of an IT Architecture team at Red Hat and brings over 25 years of IT knowledge and experience to the board. He’s worked as a consultant, architect, system administrator and project manager and will bring that experience to CSB Ministries to help modernize and streamline processes and systems.

Mark lives in central Maryland with his wife Kathee. Their sons Alec and Josiah are 12 year CSB alum and now serve as Lieutenants in the CPC Battalion and are attending Towson University. Their daughters Naomi and Meghan are both attending Howard Community College. The Shogers enjoy travel and cruising and can be frequently found at marching band competitions.

Steve Ehrhart
V
ice Chairman

Steve’s earliest experience with Christian Service Brigade began in the late 1960’s as a Brigadier in Battalion 555 at Forcey Memorial Church in MD. During his time in Battalion 555, he attended Camp Hemlock in West Virginia, and was also on staff for two summers before joining the U.S. Army, serving for almost twenty-two years before retiring in 1997.

After retiring from the Army, Steve joined CSB as a regional director for the southeast United States covering the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida. Shortly after joining CSB in 1997, Steve was selected to be the National Field Director, supervising the U.S. field staff and as CSB’s liaison with the numerous CSB camps. He traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada speaking at father-son events, leadership training seminars and leading campfire talks at several camps each summer. He also served as the interim President for CSB during the transition from Dave Hall to Don Patterson. Steve left the CSB leadership team in 2003 to enter the pastorate.

Steve has a deep commitment to evangelism and discipleship. This commitment started while teaching Bible clubs in the housing projects of Washington DC as a teenager, serving alongside his then girlfriend Priscilla. They eventually married and have been serving together for over forty-three years. They have three adult sons, two of whom served in the U.S. Army. In addition, they have one daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Since leaving CSB staff, Steve has served as an associate or senior pastor for several churches in the Rock Hill, SC area. His pastoral emphasis is on restoration and revitalization of churches. He has also served as a Christian school administrator. He is currently serving as a pastor in York, SC.

Alex Mull
Secretary

Alex was raised in a home where neither of his parents were believers.  It was as a freshman at the University of Delaware, through InterVarsity, he was first presented the Gospel and began his personal relationship with Christ in the fall of 1992.  Alex was very fortunate to be surrounded by faithful believers at Delaware who helped him to understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Christ.

Alex met his wife Julie at Delaware, were married in April of 1999, and God has blessed them with two children, Elizabeth and William.  He has been actively involved in Christian Service Brigade since 1999, and is currently serving as Co-Captain of Unit 8034.  Alex has previously served as a Ranger, Lieutenant, and Captain at a previous unit, and in 2010 he was awarded the Herald of Christ for Men.

Alex is thankful to be part of the CSB family and to be able to see how God is using the ministry to reach and mentor young men to be future leaders in their families, churches, and the world.  He appreciates the opportunity to be a part of the CSB Board of Directors and work alongside others to strengthen CSB for future generations.

Bob Nass
Board Member

Bob Nass was born and grew up on Long Island, New York.  He was very active in Scouting as a youth, and sought to make a career in Professional Scouting.  While a student at the Stony Brook School, a Christian prep school, he committed his life to Christ at the age of 16.  During his sophomore year at Long Island University he enlisted in the Naval Reserve, and received a commission through the Reserve Officer Candidate program after graduating with a BS in Business Administration.

While on active duty in the Navy, Bob was discipled by The Navigators, and upon completion of his active duty he moved into the Navigator home in Norfolk VA.  Bob moved with the Nav family to San Diego, and then to Oakland CA where he was asked to come on Nav staff in military ministry.  He was subsequently assigned to Phoenix AZ and Alamogordo NM, and then to Nav headquarters in Colorado Springs.

In Colorado Springs Bob became involved as a leader in Christian Service Brigade, and found here a perfect combination of his background – a love of the outdoors, small group ministry and discipleship, and a desire to help young men become life-long followers of Christ.  It was also in Colorado Springs that God brought Kristy into Bob’s life, and they were married in September of 1976, which was also when Bob left Navigator staff and became a Regional Director for CSB.  Bob and Kristy moved to Concord CA, where he has been a West Coast RD and Director of Sequoia Brigade Camp.  They have five children and fourteen grandchildren.  Bob retired from CSB in 2016, passing that on to Dave Gregg, Norm Tacklind and Josh Tallman, and in 2022 handed the Director position with Sequoia Brigade Camp to Karl Benson.

Coming on the CSB Board, Bob hopes to encourage the expansion of camping ministry through the vision of property-less camps, trips and expeditions throughout CSB.

David Miller
Board Member

David’s CSB start was not pretty.  Young David’s’ father dragged a reluctant and obstinate 10-year-old (and his equally reluctant, obstinate, and annoying younger brother) to his first Stockade meeting on a Friday night. They both wanted to stay home and watch TV.  But…

…that was all it took for David to become a lifelong CSB guy, and over 40 years later, he is still involved.  Fast forward, and both his daughters have followed in their father’s footsteps and have served as Girl’s Alive Camp Leaders at Camp Hickory Hill in Western New York.

David has years of experience serving as part of various professional, church, chamber, and camp boards, and he and his wife, Jodi, have been active in church planting for over 17 years.  It has actually been the church planting experience that has clarified David’s passion to mentor and train young men and prepare them for the ministry.

David is a serial entrepreneur and has over 30 years of experience in company start-ups and entrepreneurial ventures (In fact, bubble-gum, baling wire, and duct tape are some of his favorite “go-to” materials!).  His most recent company, 3DATX Corporation has several patents on various technologies in the global transportation sector.  As Executive Director of 3DATX, Dave’s responsibilities include Sales, Marketing, Patents and overall leadership and direction to the 3DATX team.  Dave works closely with the Board of Directors and interacts with customers and investors on a daily basis.

Dave and his wife Jodi reside in Clarence, a suburb of Buffalo, NY, and enjoy traveling the world, visiting customers – all while sharing their faith.
